eCopy - document capture made easy
eCopy is steadily becoming the defacto standard for capturing paper documents to a variety of electronic formats to be stored or hosted in a number of different platforms or systems.
eCopy is essentially an easy to use, easy to administer tool to convert paper documents into electronic format which can then be distributed in a number of different ways, such as:
* Sent via email as an attachment
* Distributed across your network in a secure manner
* Pushed directly into your workflows and/or document management systems
eCopy comes in two flavours. The first of which, eCopy ScanStation, utilises a standalone device with keyboard and mouse and will connect to any eCopy enabled MFP from Canon or Ricoh.
The second is an embedded version of eCopy and makes use of any Java Micro Edition enabled platform on any ecopy enabled MFP from Canon or Ricoh.
The true benefit of eCopy comes in what is known as "Connectors". These are small routines and subroutines that will allow you to easily push your paper documents to the format of
your choice into the repository and workflow systems that your organisation deploys. The most common use of the default connectors is scan to an SMB share and also scan to Microsoft
Exchange - with the latter your users will find any emails sent from the eCopy enabled device in their Microsoft Outlook sent item's folder - or indeed any other Exchange MAPI client if you do not use Outlook.
This touches upon the need for authentication against your Active Directory user schema. All scan routines at the eCopy enabled device will be generated by users as opposed to the
device - thus providing you with a complete and valid audit trail.
The concept of the connector does not stop at just simple scan to network share or email functionality. A whole raft of connectors have been developed by eCopy and other third-party
software houses including scan to well known Microsoft utilities such as Sharepoint and scan to large, complex document management systems such as Interwoven, Hummingbird and Documentum.
